BEACHES
In the following pages only some beaches are described. In Anzio you can find numerous establishments and free beaches.
We recommend choosing the beaches located along the Riviera di Ponente because facing the open sea, it is easier to find clean water and beaches. The Riviera di Ponente begins from the establishment described below "Riva Azzurra".
The beach (both paid and free) of the Grotte di Nerone is very suggestive.
Interesting for the price/quality ratio of the “Sole e Luna” establishment on the Riviera di Ponente, about 3km from the Anzio Suites. In the establishment there is a restaurant overlooking the sea and where you can admire fantastic sunsets.
Beaches
Nero's Caves ( 5.4 km )
Rivazzurra ( 5 km )
Sun and Moon ( 2.5 km )
NB The free beaches, without fees, are located along the western coast (Via Ardeatina). Normally you go down to a bathing establishment and reach the free beach on foot. (2.2 km)
Nero's Caves
The Grotte di Nerone are one of the most characteristic beaches of the town of Anzio , in the province of Rome.
The peculiarity of this beach lies in the fact that the free stretch is the one where there are brick ruins from the imperial era, a peculiarity that makes the Grotte di Nerone one of the most evocative beaches in our country.
Today, in front of the ruins of the historic Caves of Nero, there is a small strip of free beach while on the sides there are bathing establishments where you can rent relaxation equipment such as deckchairs, sunbeds and umbrellas.
The beach is made up of sand of medium grain size and amber colour, protected by the ancient "caves" behind it and bathed by a crystalline sea.
The shoreline is protected by breakwater cliffs which aim to mitigate the erosive action of the sea, making the stretch of coast in front of the beach a small natural swimming pool where even the youngest members of the family can swim safely.
A curiosity: The Grotte di Nerone beach was, in Roman times, used as port warehouses to support the maritime trade activity of Anzio.

The Rivazzurra bathing establishment is located a few meters from the remains of the "Ancient Villa of Nero", the summer residence of the Roman emperor in the quiet and relaxing city of Anzio.
